Ed Shanley

Born and bred in Juneau, Ed has been skiing the coast ranges here in Alaska for over 25 years. Growing up ski racing, he competed into his twenties collegiately before turning his focus primarily towards big mountain skiing. He has spent many years extensively skiing and climbing throughout the Northern Rockies, the Alps and the Sierra, but has always called Juneau home.

A graduate of Montana State University, Ed has taught high school English in Austria and New Zealand in addition to having worked multiple seasons as a professional ski patroller at a class A avalanche ski resort conducting extensive avalanche control in addition to offering first aid as an EMT. When not working with APD, he can be found in the greater ranges ski mountaineering, rock climbing, floating rivers and doing anything else to keep him outside 300+ days a year.
