Sean Janes
Guide, Co-Owner
Sean was born and raised in Alaska, started skiing at age three, and guiding in 1994. In addition to his work with Alaska Powder Descents, he and his wife Becky own and operate Above and Beyond Alaska and conduct guided trips in the mountains and waters of Southeast Alaska in the summers. Along with Kevin Krein, he was a founding member of Alaska Powder Descents in 2007.

Dawn Riley-Good
A native of Juneau, AK, Dawn’s love for mountain sports has carried her across the U.S., through Canada, and back home to her favorite mountains. She has been a professional guide for over a decade. In the summers she works as lead guide for Above and Beyond Alaska. In the winters, in addition to guiding for APD, Dawn is a ski patroller at Eaglecrest Resort.

Ed Shanley
Guide, Co-Owner
Raised in Juneau by a passionate ski bum father, Ed was strapped onto his first set of skis at the ripe old age of two. He ended up ski racing at Montana State University in Bozeman and has lived, skied, and climbed extensively throughout Alaska, the Rockies, Sierra, and the Alps. When not guiding helicopter skiing, Ed works as an avalanche technician for Alaska Electric Light and Powder. Ed has been lead guide on a number of professional ski and snowboard film projects throughout the state of Alaska, including Jeremy Jones’s “Further” and “Higher.”

Johnny Bressette
Guide, Co-Owner
Johnny was born and raised in Juneau and has been skiing here for 30 years.  He has been guiding heli-skiing in Southeast Alaska for the last 15 years. He specializes in working with film crews and is regularly a lead guide for Teton Gravity Research when they are filming in Alaska. When he isn’t snowboard guiding, Johnny works as an avalanche forecaster for the local power company AEL&P and spends his summers salmon fishing.

Sammy Becker
Operations Manager, Co-Owner
Sammy is a life long Alaskan.  She is passionate about skiing and joined the company in 2013. She has spent an extensive amount of time exploring the Juneau Icefield and surrounding backcountry. Sammy has a Bachelors of Arts in Geography and Environmental Studies.  She teaches the Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue class at the University of Alaska Southeast and loves sharing her knowledge of the outdoors with others.

Chris Eckel
As a certified EMT, Chris has worked with, and led, wilderness rescue teams on two continents, though these days he far prefers keeping people out of trouble in the first place. Chris is an avalanche control leader for Eaglecrest ski area, and an avalanche forecaster for Juneau’s Urban Forecast program.
